CANStruction 2018 Build
For PARTNERS in Architecture’s annual CANstruction build, this year we chose to recreate the iconic video game Mario Kart. This event, sponsored by the AIA to benefit Gleaners Food Bank, is a challenge for local prominent architecture firms to create the most exciting sculpture out of donated non-perishable food. Along with the help of our donors, we raised over $3,400 that will help bridge the hunger gap in Metro Detroit this holiday season. This included over 3500 cans and 400 lbs of rice bags. We at PARTNERS take pride in giving back to our community, and helping this great cause.
CANstruction® is a charity event and exhibition where teams of architects, designers, engineers and contractors compete to create colossal sculptures made out of canned goods and other nonperishable food items. Founded in 1992, CANstruction’s mission is to highlight the issue of hunger across communities, collect food for distribution to local areas and to showcase the creativity of the design industry. In metro Detroit it is in partnership with the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Detroit, Detroit-area architecture/engineering firms and Gleaners Community Food Bank. For nearly forty years Gleaners has been “feeding hungry people and nourishing our communities.”
