The district desperately needed to upgrade their school facilities. Those facilities were the backbone of the community and had been underutilized until the district gained wide support for a new bond. Three revitalized elementary schools were to be a part of the work and provide the foundations for the community’s rebirth. Lincoln Elementary School was the first of the three and set a standard for learning through sustainable, technological and collaborative teaching.
While the school is to remain in its existing structural state, technological improvements will be apparent throughout the facility and be intertwined with the entire district to allow sharing and collaboration at all levels. Other significant improvements that will complete the rebirth include upgrades to the Fine Arts and Science wing, as well as a new media center and gymnasium. A new entry, and therefore a new identity of the building, is being created at the intersection of the existing building and the new construction of eight new classrooms. This entry will update the once dated building and allow the school to become an icon of the community. Site circulation is also being reorganized to allow the separation of automotive and bus traffic with ample parking for the building and large gathering space for children.
The school will provide an interactive resource for the students, teachers and community as it illustrates how rainwater is treated through the use of a rain garden and how light is harnessed through the use of passive solar and daylighting techniques.
